For residents

Why we visit, and what we are doing when we do.

Your landlord has asked us to look after the fire alarms, emergency lights and other safety equipment in your building. This page explains what that involves. Your landlord may have linked you here.

What we do in your building

  • Test the fire alarm. You may hear it sound briefly during a test. If it sounds for longer than a minute, or at an unexpected time, treat it as real and follow your building’s fire instructions.
  • Test the emergency lights in corridors and stairs so they work if the power fails.
  • Check the smoke vents, dry risers and other firefighting equipment.
  • Inspect fire doors and sometimes the entrance door to your flat, because it protects you and your neighbours.

Why we might need to come into your home

Some equipment is inside flats: smoke detectors linked to the building system, heat detectors, or the flat entrance door. We give notice in writing through your landlord, offer alternative appointments, and our engineers carry photo ID. If you are not sure who is at the door, ask to see the ID and call the number on your landlord’s letter.

What you can do

  • Keep fire doors closed and never wedge them open.
  • Do not store anything in corridors, stairs or bin rooms.
  • Test your own smoke alarms monthly if your flat has them.
  • Report any damage to fire safety equipment to your landlord.

Contact

For repairs and appointments, contact your landlord first; they will pass it to us. If you see a fault in a communal fire alarm or emergency light and cannot reach your landlord, call our helpdesk on 01675 437337 and tell us the building address.
