How often is an EICR required?
Every five years for most commercial premises and for private rented homes under the 2020 Regulations, with shorter intervals for higher-risk environments such as swimming pools, industrial premises and places of public entertainment. Landlords must give tenants a copy within 28 days.
What do the codes on an EICR mean?
C1 means danger present and immediate action needed; C2 means potentially dangerous and urgent remedial work required; C3 means improvement recommended; FI means further investigation. A report with any C1 or C2 is unsatisfactory and must be remedied within 28 days for rented homes.
